the town

Monopoli is a small port town of Greek origin at the Apulian Adriatic, about 40km south of Bari. Its long history is reflected in the baroque townscape and the medieval street plan.

Exposed on a land tongue the old town Cittavecchia with its harbour and castle is surrounded on three sides by the Adriatic Sea and extents to the «murattianic» quarter of the 19th century with its straight streets and the grand Piazza Vittorio Emanuele.

Fish and vegetable market, grocery stores, numerous bars and restaurants are within close walking distance.
