The coastal strip at Monopoli is flat and characterized by olive tree groves, behind extend the hills of Valle d'Itria. During the bathing season, between May and October, the coast near Monopoli offers numerous beautiful sandy and rocky beaches. But also in the rest of the year the area is very scenic, especially the flowering season in March and April.
The turbulent past of Puglia manifests in ancient excavation fields, Staufer and Norman castles and the medieval townscapes with baroque overmolding; in the surrounding area Polignano, Alberobello, Locorotondo, Cisternino and Martina Franca offer magnificent examples.
